Berryman merges with Birmingham’s Shakespeare Putsman

Nottingham-based law firm Berryman is set to take on a new role following the announcement of its merger with Birmingham-based Shakespeare Putsman.

The merger will create a Midland wide network of offices with an annual turnover of £30m, employing 440 people.

Commenting on the merger, chairman of Berryman, Richard Brackenbury said: “On behalf of the partners and equity partners of Berryman, I confirm that we have signed the deal confirming that Berryman will merger with Shakespeare Putsman. The deal will complete and the new firm will be officially formed on 01st November 2010.

“This is an exciting time for Berryman and adds new impetus to our growth strategy, firm-wide and for every team within it. We will continue to develop this strategy through high quality work across our teams and sector-specific teams and through further lateral hires, to ensure we grow market share across the region as part of a dynamic, ambitious and larger firm.

“For the short term we will continue to trade in Nottingham under the Berryman name.”

Paul Wilson, Shakespeare Putsman CEO added: “The economic climate and Legal Services Act has made the legal market place increasingly complex and competitive.

“Berryman has an excellent reputation in Nottingham and the East Midlands. It has long held a very strong position as a pioneering, dynamic and ambitious law firm in the region. These like-minded characteristics make this merger an ideal fit.”
