Plans for a £100m transformation of the Castleward area of Derby will go on display at Westfield Shopping Centre this week at a public information event hosted by regeneration specialist, Compendium Living.
The developer will be showcasing their highly anticipated plans for the first time this month, revealing exactly how they will breathe new life into the 30 acres of land linking Derby Midland Station and Westfield.
Plans will be on display at Westfield from Friday 27th to Saturday 28th January at Copecastle Square on level 1 (by Sainsbury’s), with local residents invited to come and take a look at how their city will evolve.
Dave Bullock, Managing Director of Compendium Living says: “The regeneration of Castleward signifies a new era in Derby, so we’re really keen to discover the public’s reaction to these exciting redevelopment plans.
“We believe our ideas will give Castleward the 21st Century boost it craves, creating a high quality community and creating future jobs in a tough economic climate.
“This project is Compendium Living’s biggest to date and we’re delighted to be able to draw on the expert knowledge of our partners in order to develop a sustainable community and the city’s new front door.”
As well as demonstrating exactly how the award-winning company plans to modernise the area, the special event will provide an opportunity for the public to offer their feedback on the high profile scheme.
The team will take account of feedback from the event before submitting a planning application for the first phase of the development.
Currently industrial and amenity space, the redevelopment of Castleward will see up to 800 new homes, 36,500sq ft of commercial space, brand new community and leisure facilities, a school and open spaces provide the area with a much-needed boost.
A contemporary boulevard, featuring new trees, homes and businesses, will transform the area’s existing central footpath into a vibrant and welcoming walkway into the heart of the city.
There will be a huge focus on incorporating modern features and new building designs, while Derby’s industrial heritage will also be reflected in some designs.
The public consultation event comes after Compendium Living, jointly owned by Lovell and The Riverside Group, scooped the £100m deal in March 2011, having impressed Derby City Council with ideas that blend old and new.
Mr Bullock adds: “In order to ensure our plans meet the needs and aspirations of Derby’s people, we want to know exactly what the public think, so I would like to encourage local people to come along and take a look.
“Compendium Living’s vision is to provide those living and working in Castleward with everything they need in their locality, as well as to create something that Derby can be proud of and enjoy for many years to come.”
